Smoking Cessation

Hypnotherapy is a clinical technique that uses a state of deep relaxation and mental focus to access the subconscious. This is where automatic habits reside — including smoking.

Smoking Cessation

How does it help with quitting smoking?

During the sessions, we work to:

  • Reduce the physical and psychological craving for cigarettes

  • Alter mental associations (e.g., cigarette = pleasure → cigarette = discomfort)

  • Reinforce motivation and self-control

  • Develop new, functional and adaptive responses to stress, avoiding the substitution of the smoking habit with other compensatory yet harmful mechanisms, such as emotional eating

What is the format and duration of the sessions?

The protocol involves:

  • A first session for assessment and preparation for quitting smoking,

  • A second session dedicated to smoking cessation therapy, and

  • A reinforcement session, held on a weekly basis.

At the third session (the reinforcement session), results are evaluated.
If necessary, additional reinforcement sessions may be held to ensure the patient's goals are fully achieved.
If this is not required, a follow-up session will take place one month after the therapy concludes.

Sessions last, on average, 1h30.

What does the evidence say?

Studies suggest that hypnotherapy can be a useful tool in smoking cessation, with internal motivation and professional support being essential requirements for this approach.
Many people report a significant reduction in or complete cessation of smoking.

Who is it suitable for?

  • People motivated to quit smoking

  • Those who have tried other methods without success

  • Those seeking a more in-depth and personalised approach
