Adult ADHD Assessment

At PsicOeiras, we conduct a comprehensive assessment of ADHD, based on current clinical guidelines and scientific evidence.
The assessment is carried out by a psychologist with specific training in this area and typically takes place over 2 to 3 sessions.

The process includes:

• A clinical interview and detailed collection of clinical and developmental history;

• Administration of validated ADHD assessment instruments;

• Collection or validation of information from a reference person (such as a family member or partner), when clinically relevant;

• Where relevant, review of supporting documentation, such as reports, records, or school evaluations, and other pertinent clinical materials.

 

Upon completion of the assessment, a clinical report is prepared, describing the results obtained, an analysis of the diagnostic criteria, and clinical recommendations.

 

When the assessment identifies indicators consistent with ADHD, the person is referred to a psychiatrist within our team. The purpose of this psychiatric consultation is to:

• Validate the clinical information gathered;

• Confirm (or rule out) the diagnosis;

• Define the most appropriate treatment plan.

 

Where clinically indicated, medication may be prescribed, considered a first-line intervention for ADHD in many cases, in accordance with current scientific evidence. Psychological intervention may also be recommended, either on its own or as a complement to pharmacological treatment, depending on each individual's needs.
